EARL GANT
An outstanding running back at Peoria Manual High School, Earl Gant went on to a fine ball-carrying career at the University of Missouri and then played two seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL.
At Missouri he had career marks of 297 carries, averaging 5.6 yards a crack and scored 10 touchdowns.
His high game was 25 carries for 157 yards against Illinois in 1977 and he followed up this game with 110 yards against Arizona and 101 against California.
He led Mizzou in rushing in 1977 with 769 yards in 144 carries for a 5.3 average.
In his senior season in 1978, although he was the second back to James Wilder, he ran for 153 yards against Oklahoma and scored four touchdowns against Kansas to tie a school record.
Taken in the 1979 draft in the fifth round by Kansas City, Gant ran for 196 yards in 56 carries in 16 games in 1979, scoring one touchdown. He also caught 15 passes for 101 yards.
In 1980, his final year, he gained 32 yards in four carries and caught 24 passes for 169 yards.
