Tri-County Sports Award
1994 Tri-County Male Coach of the Year
DICK VAN SCYOC
Dick Van Scyoc reached the pinnacle in 1994 when he became the winningest coach in the history of Illinois high school basketball and followed this up by coaching his Manual rams to the state Class AA championship.

Ending his career with a 826-400 mark, his team went 27-6 in his final season while playing an extremely difficult schedule that included games with five out-of-state teams. His Rams won at powerful Vashon of St. Louis and finished second in the famed King Cotton toumament in Arkansas.

Van Scypc broke legendary Centralia coach Arthur Trout's career win mark at Collinsville when his Rams downed East St. Louis Lincoln for No. 810.

On the road to the state title his team disposed of Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 85-68 and Springfield 55-52 to win a regional title of the Peoria Sectional complex and then edged Quincy 58-56 and Galesburg 80-53 in the sectional. The Rams qualified for the Elite Eight by ousting Danville 65-56 in the Super Sectional and then won its state title by whipping Chicago Westinghouse 81-76, Rockford Boylan 80-67, and Carbondale 61-60 in the title game.
