1999 Tri-County Female Athlete of the Year
JENELLE DEATHERAGE
Jenelle Deatherage, University of Wisconsin senior, won three Big Ten Conference titles (Indoor Mile, Indoor 3000 Meters, Outdoor 3000 Meters) in 1999 and placed 2nd in the Outdoor 1500 and 5000 Meters. As a member of the U.S. Track & Field Team, Jenelle finished 11th in the 1999 World University Games in Mallorca, Spain with a 1500 Meter time of 4:15.53.
Deatherage finished 6th in the mile and 5th in the 3000 meters (two hours apart) pulling the Badgers to an 8th place tie with UCLA in the 1999 NCAA Indoor finals.
A former IHSA cross country champion (East Peoria High 1993), Jenelle qualified in the 1500 meters for the 2000 Olympic Trials to be held in Sacramento, California later this year.
In addition, Jenelle Deatherage was named 1999 Big Ten Track & Field Athlete of the Year, 1999 University of Wisconsin Female Athlete of the Year and has won four NCAA All-American honors. All that, and Jenelle maintained her membership in the Academic All Big Ten Squad.
