1999 Tri-County Male Coach of the Year
BRETT CHARLTON
Brett Charlton, currently in his fourth season as cross country coach at Eureka High School [written 2000], has had extraordinary success. His cross country boys team won the Class A IHSA championship while his girls team placed ninth.
Brett guided his boys to another championship in while his girls finished second. En route to the repeat, his Hornets went undefeated in dual meets, won the Tri-County conference, the Eureka regional and the Elmwood sectional. To top off the state championship, the boys won by the incredible score of 32, lowest in the 24-year history of the Class A finals. Brett was honored by being named both the Girls and Boys Illinois Track and Cross Country Coach's Association Coach of the Year for 1999.
Charlton has produced All-State cross country runners in each of his four years. Together, Heidi Knapp, Matt Kaufman, Ryan Chapman, Jon Houseworth, Daniel Martin, Trent Leman, Kiersten Klaus and Dustin Franckey have won eleven cross country all-state honors. Success should continue. Brett also coached Eureka Middle School to an 8th grade 1999 IESA girls track championship.
